Buyer terms and conditions

Version 1.0 · Read the seller terms

1. About these terms

These terms apply to every person or business that lists services (for example plumbing, electrical work, repairs, cleaning) on iTach Market ("the Marketplace"). By ticking the box when you register you agree to them.

2. What the Marketplace does

  • The Marketplace lists you so customers near you can find and contact you. You and the customer agree the job and the price between yourselves. You are an independent provider, not an employee or agent of the Marketplace, and are responsible for your work, tools, insurance, licences and taxes.
  • Payment for a job is normally arranged directly between you and the customer, off the app. If a customer chooses to pay through the app instead (see section 5), the Marketplace is a party to that one payment only, not to the underlying job.

3. Registration, listing fee and verification

  • Providers pay a listing fee to stay visible: KES 100 per period for individuals and KES 1,000 per period for registered companies. A period is 30 days.
  • The first payment is due when you register. We invoice before each following period ends. If a fee is not paid, your listing is hidden after a grace period of 5 days. Paying restores it straight away.
  • The fee is not refundable once a period has started. Companies must give a valid registration number.
  • New providers must upload a recent profile picture, a valid certificate of good conduct (we check its expiry date and will ask you to renew it before it lapses), a verifiable M-Pesa or bank statement, and a copy of your national ID (front and back). Your listing stays hidden from customers until an administrator has approved these documents.

4. Your profile

  • Describe your services, skills, strengths, prices and experience truthfully. "From" prices are a guide and you must explain any extra charges before starting work.
  • Give the area you are based in and the areas you work in. Customers are shown providers who work in their area, with the distance. Only claim areas you genuinely serve.
  • You must hold any licence, certificate or registration that the law requires for your trade.
  • You choose how you are paid out (M-Pesa till, M-Pesa paybill - our main mode - or cheque) and how often (daily, weekly or monthly) in your profile. Cheque payouts only run monthly and need your bank details.

5. Requests, jobs, payment and ratings

  • Customers send you requests through the Marketplace. Respond promptly; mark a request accepted, declined or completed honestly, and quote a price when you accept so the customer knows what to expect.
  • The customer chooses how to pay: directly to you (cash, M-Pesa, etc., arranged between you), or through the app, where we hold the payment and release it to your provider wallet once you mark the job completed. If the request is declined or cancelled before completion, a payment made through the app is refunded to the customer automatically. Payments made through the app currently carry no commission platform commission.
  • If a customer pays you directly, off the app, the Marketplace is not able to help and is not responsible for that payment or its outcome if something goes wrong - only payments made through the app are covered.
  • Only customers whose job you have marked completed can rate you. Ratings and comments are the customer's own opinion and are shown next to your listing. You may not offer payment or favours for ratings, or pressure customers to change them.
  • Suggestions ranked by rating, price and distance are calculated automatically and are not paid for.

6. Conduct and safety

Treat customers and their property with respect, work safely and follow the law. We may hide or remove listings that receive repeated valid complaints, are misleading or breach these terms, and we will tell you why.

7. Personal data

Use customers' contact details only to deal with their request. We handle personal data, including your verification documents, in line with the Data Protection Act, 2019.

8. Changes and contact

We may update these terms. The version number is shown on this page and we record which version you accepted.
